On December 16th 2019 on the occasion of the completion of five years of rehabilitation and restoration works of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, the presentation ceremony “The Basilica of the Church of the Nativity in Betlehem: Heritage of Humanity” took place at the Conference Hall of the Vatican Museums.
The initiative was organized by the Embassy of the State of Palestine to the Holy See and under the Patronage of His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who concluded his a speech with a call to peace in the Holy Land, and attended by H.E. Dr. Ramzi Khoury, Representative of H.E. President Mahmoud Abbas and Head of the Presidential Higher Committee of Churches Affairs, H.E. Dr Riyad El Malki, Foreign Minister of the State of Palestine, H.E. Mr. Issa Kassissieh, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Holy See, H.E. Mr. Ziad Al Bandak, Chairman of the Presidential Committee for the Restoration of the Church of the Nativity, H.E. Dr. Khouloud Daibes Ambassador of Palestine to the Republic of Germany and Member of the Presidential Committee for the Restoration of the Church of the Nativity, Father Ibrahim Faltas, Custody of the Holy Land, Dr. Barbara Jatta, Director of Vatican Museums and Mr. Giammarco Piacenti, CEO of Piacenti S.p.A.
Other participants were Mr. Anton Salman, Mayor of Bethlehem, H.E. Ms. Abeer Odeh, Ambassador of Palestine to the Republic of Italy, H.E. Mr. Elias Sanbar Ambassador of Palestine to Unesco, Ms. Ana Luiza Thompson-Flores, Director of UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe, Senior Officials of the Sovereign Order of Malta, the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See and other personalities and restoration experts.
The event, focused on completion of five years of the rehabilitation and restoration works of the Church of the Nativity and marked by musical moments and by the projection of two documentaries, produced by the Embassy of the State of Palestine to the Holy See and Piacenti S.p.a., conveyed a message of Peace to the World.
The presentation ceremony was followed by a reception at the Gregorian Profane Museum.
